Romany Rock was Cathy & Udo’s second ever piece written together; and as Bulghur Wheat Bounce before it, began life as a viola solo piece.

This performance took place on 5 February 1992 at La Val’s Subterranean in Berkley, San Francisco. Cathy & Udo are seen here on their first ever tour together, named The Annexe, prior to becoming Europa String Choir later in 1993. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the California Guitar Trio for inviting us along! Good memories.

Amateur, analog video footage.

During the same 6 week tour of California, the two groups also played some pieces together, perhaps most notably, this example: a circulation of the Bach 1st Prelude from the Well Tempered Clavier.

As above, this performance took place on 5 February 1992 at La Val’s Subterranean in Berkley, San Francisco.

The beginning...

During a longer residential music course in 1993, Alessandro Bruno permanently joined the duo and during first rehearsals & concerts in Rome, Europa String Choir was born.

This rescued-from-VHS footage is from a concert in Trieste, Italy in Oct 1994. “The Moving Force” was written by Robert Fripp & Cathy Stevens and “Yankee” by our friend Nigel Gavin from NZ.
